Four Highlights from ESRT’s 2024 Sustainability Report

Empire State Realty Trust released its annual Sustainability Report, filled with major awards and achievements, data-based goals, and transparent metrics for sustainability, energy efficiency, and corporate social responsibility throughout 2024. 

In the report, the company highlighted its priorities to lease space, sell tickets to the Empire State Building Observatory, maintain the balance sheet, achieve its sustainability goals, and grow its business – all to build value for its investors.

“Empire Building Playbook” – Part Two

ESRT published the “Empire Building Playbook” for multifamily buildings to complement 2022’s “Empire Building Playbook: An Owner’s Guide to Low Carbon Retrofits.” In 2024, the Playbook was expanded to further demonstrate the business case for energy efficiency at large commercial and multifamily buildings and to enhance scalability and educational tools for landlords to leverage. Number One, Again!

For the second consecutive year, ESRT ranked first of all Listed Companies in the Americas and first in the most competitive peer group within the U.S. ESRT achieved the highest possible Global Real Estate Sustainability (GRESB) 5 Star Rating for the fifth consecutive year with an overall score of 93. 

Leadership Recognized

In 2024, the company received the 2024 International WELL Building Institute (IWBI) WELL Health Safety Leadership award for its prioritization of building occupant health and well-being, and achievement of the WELL Health-Safety Rating across 100% of its portfolio in each year of participation from 2020. 

Additionally, BOMA awarded the Empire State Building with the 2024 TOBY Earth Award for its wide range of sustainability practices and policies that identify, measure, mitigate, and communicate their significant impact on the environment.

Annual Certifications

ESRT achieved certifications for its energy efficient and health portfolio, which included 82% certified by Fitwel and 100% of its NYC commercial portfolio ENERGY STAR certified. The company achieved ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year Sustained Excellence for the second consecutive year.
